DIY Lotion Bars

I like making things for no reason at all. Just for my enjoyment. First I like doing the research and then figuring out how to do it. One of my favourite things to make are beauty products, they are so much fun. I have made body butter, scrubs and masks. My favourite so far has been body butters. Next on my to do list is soap.

Today I am showing you how I made lotion bars.

When I was in Zimbabwe, I went to the Maasdorp Avenue Market. It is an open market for fresh fruit fruit and vegetables, crafts, sauces and many other things that you would not necessarily find in a shop. They are open Wednesdays and Fridays and easily accessible using public transport (UZ Combis and drop off at Bon Marche). It was here that I found locally made beeswax. I was so happy to find it because it is one of those things that I have not found here in Bermuda. You can use beeswax to make so many products from candles to lotion bars. Like I did.

Lotion bars are really easy to make and make easy gifts. I did not have to buy anything on the day I decided to make the bars as I use the other ingredients frequently. I used coconut oil, shea butter and the beeswax.

You will need equal parts of the ingredients, I used a third cup of each. If you want you can add essential oils like lavender for scent. I melted all the ingredients and poured in a silicone mold.

Let the bars harden. In colder climates you can just leave them on the kitchen counter, otherwise refrigerate the bars.To use the lotion bars, use them like you would a bar of soap. Your body heat will melt the lotion in your hands.
