How I get over “not feeling like it”

Today is one of those when I just do not feel like doing anything. I have no idea when my day got derailed but somehow it did. It probably had to do with the fact that I did not have proper breakfast. I did not make bread yesterday and I did not want to make oats or porridge. It rolled over into not wanting to leave the house today and any kind of cleaning. Of course with a toddler I was forced to clean eventually.

Just before lunch I decided to make the bread, the idea was that it would eventually help me over the funk.It did not work, the bread is delicious. I then made dinner super early and still it did not work. I was about to go to bed but realised I had to do something about how I was feeling otherwise the next morning I would either work up feeling the same or overwhelmed.

I decided to write.

As I write this blog post my post has improved. I wish I had done this in the afternoon. Most of us go through this, where you just do not feel like doing anything especially the things you are supposed to be doing. It is a mental thing, of course I know I can finish the arms on the sweater that is 90% complete but I just don’t want to deal with it right now. I would rather start a new project that will take several weeks to complete than sit down for an hour to finish the arms.

I am blessed in that I wake up everyday and do the things I love but on days like today I need something extra. In psychology, they talk about grit. About having that determination and strength of character to get this done. Today I had none, maybe just a little.

To get out of feeling this way I usually try different things in no particular order

Different things will work for different people. Shopping works for some, while others swear by coffee. The trick is to find what works for you.

Looking at my list above I also realise I need to add something very important: PRAYER! I know prayer works but when I need it, it gets lost in the confusion. I have been thinking about getting a prayer journal. I have not quite decided how would use the prayer journal.

Now its your turn. I would like to know how you get over not wanting to do anything.
