Caribbean Green Seasoning

Chitsva chiri mutsoka! This Shona saying translates to  when you travel, you see and experience new things. Which is the best thing about living or visiting another country. I have learnt a lot about tolerance, being the different one, minding my own business and other people’s cultures. Because Bermuda has a large expat community from all over the world, I have learnt a lot more than I expected.

There is a large Caribbean community in Bermuda, I guess because of the proximity. What I have observed is that the islands have as many similarities as they do differences especially when it comes to the food. I will say though, I have eaten more Jamaican food than from any other island. I love it. Unlike Zimbabwean food, food from the Caribbean Islands is slow cooked with a lot of herbs and peppers. This gives the food a lot of depth in flavour and just general yummy goodness.

While doing some research, I came across this Caribbean green seasoning. From my research each island has its own blend. I use scallions, red pepper, red onion, thyme, cellery, cilantro, garlic and jalapeno peppers. From the first time I tried this, I loved it.  I make a jar or two to last me a month. I use it in my stews and on fish. It is my secret recipe.Caribbean Green Seasoning

I dice everything and put in the blender and blend away.Caribbean Green Seasoning
