Tsubvu BBQ Sauce

When I was in Zimbabwe I had the opportunity to try E-foods products. I used their premade bbq sauce in these meatballs.

I also got their other products like soy sauce, Worcester sauce and vinegars that you can use in your everyday cooking.  I made my own bbq sauce with tsubvu and sauces and vinegar from E-foods. Tsubvu adds a smokiness to the flavour that is distinct. I made the sauce rather thick because that is the way I like it.

Tsubvu BBQ Sauce

It is simple and you can make it ahead of time or if you want you can can the sauce and store it for a long time.

Tsubvu BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of red onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup Mr Sauce Brown vinegar
  • 1 /4 cup tsubvu puree
  • 1/4 cup Mr Sauce Worcester Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Mr Sauce tomato sauce

Method

  1. Heat a large saute pan to medium-high heat, add olive oil and red onion.
  2. Saute for 2-3 minutes until onions are translucent, add garlic cloves. Stir and saute for 30 seconds.
  3. Next add in Worcester sauce, tomato sauce, brown sugar and brown vinegar. Stir until brown sugar is dissolved.
  4. Add in tsubvu puree, stir and bring to a boil.
  5. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Stirring on occasion.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool.
  7. Store in airtight container in the refrigerator.
